Version 2

Process

What you see here is the background image that I created for the overlay. This background is heavily inspired by the opening scene in Megaman 2 when you launch the game. I changed all of the background buildings to look a little different and used the Rental Rewind brand colours. I also changed how the mountain formations normally looks as well as alter how the sky looks as well. I had to increase the size of the large building on the right so it could better fit where you would see the live chat.

Challenges

Creating all of these individual buildings and then placing copying and pasting them in a specific order throughout the entire background was very time consuming. To save myself some time for the furthest and smallest buildings I ended up copying and pasting patterns instead of placing each individual building.

Background Image

Process

The background image above is inspired by the "vice" aesthetic combined with a retro style. I chose this style specifically because it reminded me of the bright colours and visuals you would see back in the 90's and early 2000's if you were to enter an arcade.

Challenges

Creating the grid for the background was a very time consuming and difficult process for me because I don't have a lot of experience with working with perspective, not matter how much I tried to visualize how it should look it always came out wrong. I did rely looking at reference images and playing with grids in order to get the look I have now. I hope to improve more on my visualization skills in the future.

Trivia Overlay

Version 1

Process

Season 2 of Rental Rewind is themed around video games based in the late 90's and early 2000's so I created a frame that is inspired by the Gameboy Advance because it fits with the theming and it was the first console I ever played so I had a lot of fun designing it.

The initial design did have to change because they wanted a more rounded and cartoony look since that aesthetic better suited the theming for Rental Rewind.

Challenges

When I first created the background in Photoshop I didn't realize that when you want animate something all elements should be made on individual layers since I wanted to animate individual elements. When I got to animation phase I had a lot of elements merged together making it impossible to animate it the way I wanted. I had to go back to the photoshop folder and separate everything into their own individual layers which took up more time.
