Overview

I produced a miniature documentary highlighting D6 Tabletop Cafe, which at the time was a newly established board game cafe where my friends and I frequently visited. The cafe owners, with whom we had well acquainted with, granted me the opportunity to create this documentary.

D6 Tabletop Cafe Documentary

Process

My initial task involved formulating engaging interview questions to prompt in-depth responses, avoiding mere yes-or-no answers. I conducted an interview with one of the cafe owners, capturing their insights. While at the cafe, I collected a plethora of b-roll footage, encompassing shots of the cafe's ambiance and my friends and I immersed in board games. During the editing phase, my focus was on synchronizing music with specific segments of the documentary and designing a lower third for Soloman's introduction.

Challenges

This project was my first time navigating Adobe After Effects independently. Despite prior exposure to the software in class, navigating it independently felt different without the guidance of my teacher. Persistence and continued effort enabled me to gradually become more proficient with the program.Several elements I aimed to incorporate into the documentary extended beyond my class teachings, leaving me uncertain about their execution. To address this, I turned to various After Effects tutorials, which provided essential guidance.Conducting interviews was a first-time experience for me. During recording, I grappled with insufficient questions, background noise picked up by the microphone, and personal nervousness. However, in-the-moment improvisation allowed me to generate more questions, soundproofing measures like blankets improved audio quality, and Soloman's supportive advice eased my nerves and boosted my confidence in conducting interviews.
