HOW TO PLAY MONOPOLY

This video was created for a project where my group had to create an e-learning website centered around a non-digital subject and our group chose Monopoly. My responsibility was to develop the beginner module, teaching users how to play the game through an 8-minute tutorial video.
Overview

Process

I began by researching existing "how to play Monopoly" videos, extracting the best elements from each to create a comprehensive guide. My research unveiled crucial details that were often overlooked, such as distributing starting money to players. With this insight, I formulated a script and recorded the voice-over audio. During filming, I synchronized my actions with the audio playback to ensure seamless alignment during editing.

Challenges

One of the biggest challenges was figuring out the right backdrop for filming. Since I was limited to recording on my basement table, I had to find a way to deal with the unappealing walls. In the end, I decided to use spotlight lighting, which kept the focus on the game board while hiding the less-than-ideal background.

Lighting was another obstacle. Instead of constantly renting equipment and dealing with the hassle of transporting it, I got creative with what I had at home. I repurposed an LED light, attaching it to a lamp to shine directly on the Monopoly board. This simple solution saved me from multiple rentals and made the whole setup much easier to manage.

Finding the correct camera angle also proved to be a challenge. As you can see from the images you can see I tried some wild tactics. I don't have a photo of the final set-up but I was able to find a good angle of a top-down view of the board that didn't put the equipment in danger.
